Anyone working with Dwarf Wisteria?
« on: January 24, 2013, 04:14 PM »

Is anyone training Dwarf Wisteria, Millettia Japonica, for bonsai? I have not seen any discussion of this plant.

I have a small stock plant from Mr. Valavanis which has been in my care for one season. It did well and was very attractive with the small green leaves. I placed it in morning sun with light afternoon shade and it handled a very hot summer well. The leaves started to turn yellow in early September but I put that down to the heat since there were no insects or visible diseases and the root system, upon inspection, looked strong. Plant took a good amount of water and the small trunk almost doubled in thickness. I like the plant very much, very feminine.

International Bonsai ran a good article in Issue No. 1 of 2004 which stated that even though they hardly ever flower, Boon has a dwarf wisteria in his yard that does (flower).

I'd like to know of other's experience with this species.

Thank you.

Best Regards
