pinus strobus nana

(1/1)

bonsaiTom:
Anyone have any experience with dwarf Eastern White Pine ? Our club was given one. What might we expect from it as prospective bonsai material?

tanlu:
that's a good question. I've been wondering that myself. There are two very large dwarf EWP in my landlord's yard, but for their size and age, their bark has only just started to develop. If the bark on your club's tree is still smooth, I don't think it's worth the effort.

I've come to the conclusion that any EWP used for bonsai must be ancient.

bonsaiTom:
Yeah I've noticed how very smooth the bark is. The tree will be a raffle item at our holiday luncheon in Dec. The plan is for it to be used in a future demonstration - if the new 'owner' agrees - sort of an educational tool. Not great material for classic bonsai, but decent for instructional purposes.

Interesting that no one else here had any comments. Not a common, or desirable, pine for bonsai I guess.
