The ones I saw were 45$ and very young bark.

A long time it takes for flexilis to develop rough bark.  A long time.  Its one drawback perhaps this is.  More concerned be with the size of the trunk should you be.  If able to come up with the money you are and also able to care for a decent or excellent Yamadori you should buy.  Regret it you will not.  For example see Ryans for sale trees and the very old flexilis there in the drum pot.  Throw it out for having non spectacular bark I would not. ;)
