why do they graft onto jbp roots? ???

Nice work.  Did you remove a small branch (second on left at trunk) and then guy wire the remaining 2nd branch to the first on the left?  It image is much better now, and the apex looks great.

Penny,
They graft on to JBP understock for strength of the root system (JBP tend to be stronger- especially in captivity) and to reproduce the unique attributes of specific plants or witches brooms (typically virus infected branches with very specific characteristics that won't reproduce sexually).

sorry i missed this.   no i did not remove any main branches.  it is wired and moved more toward the front.  and i do not thin i guy wire this tree.  at all.
