Browning/Yellowing Needles
« on: October 19, 2013, 01:03 PM »
Hey,

I never had my jwp for an entire year because I received it during winter 2012; therefore, I'm not sure if yellowing needles that eventually become brown and fall off is common during the fall season.

Thanks,
Nick

Nick, first I must tell you that I am NOT extremely knowledgeable on pines...
that said I do know that pines drop their three year old needles in the fall. If you have not removed them that is what is happening.
Pines keep their needles for a few years then they drop.
I'll let someone more expert give you more info, but if you receive this pine in the winter of 2012 it had already dropped those old needles or more likely they were removed.
Hope this helps
Jay

Jay is right, JWP loose their 3rd year needles this time of year.  Are the yellow needles the furthest ones away from the new growth this year?  If so, this is what is happening.  If it is this years growth, then it is cause for concern.

Thanks Jay and Judy. I'll examine it and put up pictures for more description. Should I brush off the needles or along them to fall off on their own?

I take mine off to keep it tidy.  If you don't, they'll fall on their own soon enough.

Nothing to worry about here, just old needles doing the old needle thing.  I would suggest a good wiring this winter...
