Title: Why not try Root over deadwood Ficus Aurea
Post by: SpongeMann on February 02, 2015, 08:40 PM
I had a F.Aurea root wrapped around a cedar stump. But it hasn't grown any leaves so I  dug it up to check the roots. It only had to new feeder roots so I just potted it without the stump to let it grow more .  My f aurea cutting needed a better place. Hey stump!

It has many hollows .  It was full of ants. But I evicted them after they did all the work building the place. I carved a few extra holes on top. And placed a root through each one.

No I didn't. It was in a pot with the ficus root  and in high humidity but I guess it doesn't rot easy. The little bit of bark that was on there was the only thing that rotted out.I only filled the stump with amaybe a cup of coarse sand and compost. And I used deer mass as a plug and it holds moisture and oxygen pretty good. I get good root ramification from the coarse builders sand.

Interesting.

I would be very worried about rot setting in but good luck.

Would like to see how this one continues.

Hi everyone. I removed the the F Aurea. And placed a tiger bark cutting in its place the leaves were just too big . I put the Aurea cutting in a 2 1/2foot tall  pot and it took off. It doesn't have much foliage .  I am trying to shorten it more

Hi everyone . I decided it wasn't a bad idea to transplant the cutting since I have touched it since I planted it . The cutting was kind of long since the mother plant was extremely long and leggy. So I pruned it as low as I could atm. I am bringing my ficus pre bonsai indoors and under CFL lights to get close internodes . The stump needs to be tilted to the left next repot.

I met a nice woman at Eve's Garden she was buying mud men for her husband. I didn't know about mud men so I thanked her and told her to tell her husband to check out B.S.G.

My ficus stay in a cooler that usually builds moisture but it's too cool outside . So I use a candle warmer to raise the humidity.

I wanted to placed the tree off to a side . But the hole in the top was better for the roots to grow naturally. I only added soil in the hole on top . The roots snaked down the stump. I am stumped on a future design for this cutting . I already have a few banyan style pre bonsai I am working  . So I want this one to be different . I would appreciate if you guys could give me ideas maybe a virtual . Thanks

Hi everyone I've been caught up in everyday things for a couple of years .But I've been slowing things down again. I lost a few trees and pre bonsai projects but I still have a few. I also started a few new projects . My hobbies have grown in the past few years. Bonsai is not one of my  hobbies It's a part of my life. Bonsai gave me a new outlook on life . So I'm gonna keep it going and stay in the community. I started a YouTube channel two weeks ago. It's been on my mind everyday for years. So I tried it . I'm only 3videos into it .My first video was a little long because I was introducing myself. The audio was bad too. But the content was good . I also made a video for This Ficus root over deadwood. It's finally gonna grow it's canopy out . I got the roots done already they just need to thicken up. I

I love these cedar stumps .I have em in fish tanks as bonsai. I have epyphytes on them . They're great at resisting rot . I didn't treat mine and it hasn't rotted at all just the little bit of bark . In it's first year.

I noticed I wasn't the only one that hasn't been on the forum.  I hope everyone is well. I shouted out the BSG forum on my first YouTube video. I had to you guys were really nice to me. I was on here with any ol container with a  tree in it . I just want to say thank you to everyone . I used to read through all the forums undercover and I noticed some people were mean and that can turn people away from the art or the platform. It wasn't like that here.
