Title: Trimming a Green Island Ficus
Post by: Dale Cochoy on July 18, 2011, 03:21 PM
Two days ago I had a ficus-trimming marathon and got through about a third of the tropical trees I need to get done which includes 6 pretty nice nerifolias that I need to get to pretty soon!
This is my largest Green Island which I removed  most of the wire on and about 90% of the foliage. It now measures 31" tall and 35" across.
I wanted to experiment with my new camera last night so at 1AM I went out and took a couple flash pictures of it. I think my new camera works pretty good for this. It seems lit well and the backgrond is completely eliminated.

I thought I'd show a couple shots of this ficus when I brought the stock home from a Florida show and did a free demo for my local club.

Reading the dimensions was one thing, seeing it in pictures with people around for perspective is a whole different ballgame.  Very impressive.

Good start Dale. It looks like a real back breaker. A two man tree for sure. I am curious about the decision over using the red pot over the brown one. Am also looking forward to seeing the nerifolia. Larry

Just a one man tree....as long as it doesn't have to be carried too far in one carry.
Simple choice on pot, it fit and looked better. Other one was bigger.
BTW, I think John Romano gave me this pot?

It was getting pretty bushy in our hot and humid summer this year, plus it had some sunburn and then frost damage from our too early hot weather and then followed by too cold of weather and nights.
I had to do a mid-summer trim/cut-back so it could re-leaf and recover well before it had to come inside under lights in a couple months.
I never completely defoliate my tropicals .

A before trimming shot, then an after trimming front shot and an after trimming back shot.
