Tamarind Tree
« on: June 07, 2015, 03:38 PM »
Hi I am new to the group and also new to Bonsai. I just got a gift  - Bonsai Tamarind Tree. Any tips on how to thicken the branches and care for the tree. I live in Southern California.

Thickening occurs due to growth; the fastest from rampant, unchecked growth.  Understand that even show-winners are allowed to overgrow their design.  Likewise, growing a tree INTO a show-winner requires much rampant growth to be cut back and repeated several times.

It might be useful to see your new tree.  Tamarinds make very nice  bonsai but because of their compound leaves need to be fairly large.  That takes time.

Keep it outdoors when temps are above 40.
