Post by: andy graham on June 30, 2012, 11:43 AM
Transplanted 3 weeks ago. Leaf trimmed 10 minutes ago. Still needs some wiring.

Great job Andy. I am impressed in the number of leaves it has, among other things. My small ficus tend to get long leggy branches with not so many leaves. Thanks for the inspiration. Larry

And a year ago...as you can see from the first picture in this series, it had become overgrown and needed to be trimmed back.

Still needs some wiring.

Seems like every thread you post of a tree ends with a comment like that.

I like this tree.  It looks good.  I could likely be convinced to bother with a tropical if you keep posting.

O.K. Wayne...wired. 2 branches. That's all my fat fingers and less than optimum eyesight could do.

Wow. Another great tree.
PS the bark looks like Tigerbark?

Jerry,

I bought the stock plants as "Golden Gate" from Brussels years ago. I agree that it looks like Tiger Bark but I believe Brussel is still calling them "Golden Gate".

4 weeks later....

It doesn't look right to me. I think I need to either extend the right lower branch or shorten the left....Any suggestions?

Hi Andy. In this last picture, is the tree turned around 180 degrees, from the picture in the light blue pot?  Because in that picture, the longer branches are on the right.  Hard to tell from a picture, but I'm thinking either move the tree a tad to the right in this pot, or perhaps put it back in the light blue pot. Sorry but I like that picture better. I might also trim some of the foilage to allow the viewer to peek at the trunk taper. OR even a third option, just sit back and enjoy it, it's beautiful. Larry

Larry,

Thanks.

The planting position is essentially the same throughout this series. I'll let this fill out some more and the new growth harden up. At that point I can do some trimming and wiring to improve the tree.

I'd reduce the length on the left side lowest branches and grow out the right side.  Maybe just cut back the left main low branch hard.  The movement of this tree is to the right (in the photo).  Then, mail it to me....

Thanks Owen. That is the plan...with the exception of mailing it to you.
