Fertilizer for Bougie
« on: May 30, 2012, 11:44 PM »
I have seen fertilizer recommendations for bougainvillea all over the map from high Nitrogen to balanced to high Phos.

Do I need a special fertilizer for bougainvillea or can I use Miracle Grow?

Thanks

Frank

You can use just about anything that you like, I would ask- what is your immediate goal with this plant?

Thanks. It is a small $14 starter plant bought so I can learn about bougies while looking for a large bougie bonsai. For now, growing the trunk larger is my main goal. Thanks

Miracle grow will work, I would also add some organic fertilizer (cottonseed meal for example) to help with soil ecology. Post a picture!

I wonder if any one has any input on using water from my koi pond to water my Bonsai? I have an over sized filter system with a water fall and settling pond. I flush my system every week where it is set up to water my tropical ground planted garden.  I've done this for the past 10 years with out any known damage. Since  Bonsai soil is made to move the water through the pot so quickly I would think that most all your nutriants flush past the roots, so an acculalation of ammonia should not be a problem.
If any one has experience with this then how often would I use this in comparison to other fertilizers?
