This is a little one I cut off a larger tree about 4 years ago. It was actually connected to the ground with arial roots so no layering or rooting necessary. Most of the "branches" were there when I cut it because of constant trimming of the parent tree.Growth and ramification have slowed considerably since planted in this small pot.

The "tree" itself is about 3.5" tall.

This is a beautiful beginning..  Next year you might want to re pot into a deeper pot to allow the tree to recover from being separated from its parent.....that is probably why the growth has slowed.  The idea is to keep it healthy first.  Shaping and any changes you might want to do should come later....

Warmest regards,
Carl
