Hi Dorothy,
If you look closely at the root part above the ground, it has lost more than 3/4 of its diameter and I raised the soil to cover the underside of that root so that the viewer might imagine that this root is solid and not a thin slice. Otherwise, if it is exposed, a reverse taper is obvious. The moss prevents the soil from erosion.
