« on: August 30, 2011, 10:19 PM »
Everyone is invited to attend our 1st Upstate New York Suiseki Exhibit on September 3-4, 2011 at the International Bonsai Arboretum in Rochester, New York. The exhibit is sponsored by the Suiseki Study Group of Upstate New York.

Additionally the Autumn 2011 Open House and Sale will be held at the International Bonsai Arboretum on the same dates. This year, to commemorate the 60th birthday of Wm. N. Valavanis there will be four demonstrations on advanced techniques by award winning bonsai artists Harvey Carapella and Wm. N. Valavanis at 11 am and 2 pm.

Bonsai will also be displayed in traditional indoor and outdoor tokonoma as well as in garden displays. A 20% discount will be offered on most items.

All events are FREE and everyone is welcome!

Bill, I don't know much about Suiseki.  They are for indoor display, so how are most displayed inside a typical US home?  I love the zen like feeling from the Suiseki, but just have no idea where I'd put one in my home.

Those are some great Suiseki pictures, Thanks for sharing!

Although most suiseki are displayed indoors, they are fine outside too, especially those in suiban or without the hand carved wooden daiza.

Indoors they can be displayed anywhere. I have a few on my window sill and entry way to our home. I even have a special suiseki which belonged to Ichiu Katayama in a staircase landing. Usually a plain background is best to enjoy the beauty of the stone.

Come to the exhibit in a few days and you can see the traditional way to display and enjoy suiseki.

That's a great location Bill!  You see it every time you walk downstairs.  I need to find a similar place.  Thanks for sharing the photo.

Bill,

The Suiseki Exhibit, and the entire Open House display, were stunning. Everything at the Arboretum improves with each visit. Found just the pots I was looking for. Just wish I could have stayed longer for the demos by you and Harvey.   :'(
