John, Frank & Don,

You'll be glad to know that this crab did really well last year. Grew like a weed. It was re-potted last weekend and is doing great. Shortened the thick roots (But needs further reduction) This year I will continue to let it grow without two much refinement. The massive short trunk pushed plenty on new shoots and I will let them develop and I will begin to develop the nebari. I have been making sketches of possible design options and I am really excited to begin to develop a great little Sumo-shohin bonsai out of this terrific stock. I'll post some pics this weekend.

Can I see a current photo?  I'm glad it did well for you last season.  You can really take the roots back hard so don't be bashful.  The new growth in Spring is blood red to purple before turning green.  Its a good tree.  I'm glad you got that one.

yep, its going to be a nice one.  I see the buds beginning to break and red leaf tips peeking out.  Soon to be in its glory.

Lookin good. Seems to be happy and healthy.
One thing i noticed is one branch in unnaturally straight. One suggestion would to be to put a bit of movement in the lower branch on the right side, it seems awfully straight, at least in this pic.  (then again, it may be the picture ???)

roelex14,

It is the pic. Branch is not as straight as it looks.
