Source for Itoigawa Whips?
« on: August 08, 2013, 11:12 AM »
Anyone know where I can get some Itoigawa whips?  I bought a procumbens nana that I want to practice grafting on it.

(I've changed my mind on the concept of grafting...if John's listening and remembers my adamant feelings on grafting at the time LOL)

Thanks
Chris

I might have a few I could part with.  What size/age/purpose?  Just for practice and propagating?

Say 1/4" or so thick, and hopefully have enough growth for the purpose of grafting onto a procumbens come spring.

I don't need many, a few is great.  I'd also like to try propagation but found it hard to pull off here.  But I'll get there ;)

Thanks Matsu.  If you want, just pm me the details and we'll go from there.

I know for sure I have a larger single in a little liner pot, and 3-4 smaller cuttings in a little cheap Chinese bonsai pot.  I'll try to get some photos tonight or tomorrow morning.

Sorry, I got distracted by another project this past weekend.

I believe the group of cuttings are from a small tree I got from Cass several years ago.  They reported it was California(?), grafted by Fred(?).

If I'm not mistaken the single is also from that tree, but a year or two older.

Both are yours, if'n you want them.  We'll have to coordinate getting them to you, as it's been horribly hot here this week, and the group of cuttings likely won't be the most fun to ship.

Those look perfect Matsu.  But you're right, awful time to ship.  Wonder if you can slip pot the cuttings into a cheap nursery can?  But if you think they may not make it, I should wait.

Can you post some pics of your attempts? I have been wanting to do a similar thing to my Juniper and a guide would be great!!  :D
