To cut or not to cut?
« on: August 07, 2011, 01:48 PM »
Hi All,

First picture post (after testing of course). I know I'm horrible at getting potting angles right, and taking a pic with wet bark isn't ideal, but I'd love your input on the design of this little juniper. I've been toying with the idea of removing the lower left branch, but I'm not in any hurry to remove a decent branch on the outside of a curve. I do feel like the foliage is a bit symmetrical, so removing that branch would make my triangle more scalene...

Thoughts?

Thanks!
Jason

Hi, Jason

I like the styling. I think no need to rush to cut the branch. Maybe later the branch u decide to cut would be use for the next styling. Just my opinion. Hope will help.

Samson

I would leave that branch on for sure. Let it grow like crazy for a couple of years or however many years you like. That branch is thickening the trunk, the growth below it. So I would leave it on and grow it as a sacrifice branch basically.

And it's placement isn't bad,bad......

Also,

At this time, I would look first at the 2 upper branches,I have marked that are growing parallel.

I'd work on that first. Either shorten one of them and wire it or jin one.

Personally, I would shorten one of them and wire it if it were my tree.

Nice little tree.
