How Far Would You Drive For An Awesome Azalea?
« on: September 06, 2011, 09:03 AM »
Off and on for the past nine months I've been helping some friends who have opened a new bonsai nursery in the DFW area. They're a mom and pop operation and don't have the time to do the work needed to keep the trees looking good. That's where I help out. I worked these azaleas to make them ready to be sold to whomever loves big trunked azaleas.
These guys are close to 3ft tall and I'm told the flowers on each are multicolored. Worth the drive to anyone living in close proximity to DFW for sure.  :)

Hi Thomas. I live in Lufkin, and would like to know the name of the nursery, and location. The azalea looks good but not sure I like it as much as some of your trees. How did they fare in the 100 - plus degree summer? Larry

Hi Larry,
glad you like my trees. As for the heat, this was one gosh awful summer, but I'm happy to say that even in the full sun where I keep my JBPs, I haven't lost a single tree. The others are under heavy shade cloth and everything is watered 3xs a day. In fact everything is looking really good. Getting ready for fall now and especially the work waiting to be done on the JBPs. I hope your trees are doing good also.

As for the nursery, the name is Tea Garden Nursery in Arlington Tx. They have a website but the pics of the trees don't them any good. They also don't ship, but have a a really good selection of top notch trees, a few JBPs in full size, very large ficus that are just as awesome as these azaleas, a few large tridents, and a few other species.

I posted a thread at IBC showing some of the different trees I worked on there. If your ever in the area, it would be worth it to stop by. ;)

Looks good but I already have a big Mi Nato.  I also have loads of rooted cutting from it.  Next year maybe an Azalea class.
