Help ID-ing please
« on: May 12, 2010, 08:34 PM »
Trying to ID this satsuki azalea I got in '08. The nursery where I purchased it the tag was lost. I'm in email contact with the owner but what he has ID'ed it as(Kimi no Hana) I'm not sure about. Course the tiny thumbnail pic he sent from another site does not show any detail. Last yr I missed it blooming due to work and exhaustion so I never paid much attention to it last yr. There are still more buds that have not bloomed so as they do I will add them to this post. All you satsuki experts are welcomed to give any advice as to which one this is. Thank you!

Blooms are 1.5" across

Kimi-no-hana [recorded beauty] (Tamari Hime x Yata-no-Kagami: Galle & Suzukis): White with occasional deep pink sectors, (Coral and orange-red stripes: Nuccio), many variations and white to deep pink (coral pink to orange-red: Nuccio) with white centers; lobes round (broadly overlapping, keeled and appearing notched, margins slightly wavy; flowers trumpet-shaped:RZC); 2-2.5 in.;(midseason-late; slow to medium growth; bushy, spreading habit: Nuccio).

That's what Callahan's _Satsuki_Azaleas_ had to say of Kimi-no-hana.  No picture tho.

Hmm, don't know. If you go by bloom size then no. Every open flower I measured are 1.5" on the nose. Not 2-2.5". Thanks for the info though.

If this is a Kimi it's a different one :)

After looking through pics on http://satsukimania.net/ (breed variety) I've narrowed it down to 4 names. This site does not list EVERY variety. The 4 are: Chiyonohikari, Heiseinohana, Komei and Seiko. I'm leaning more towards Komei out of those 4. My criteria were #1 shape of flower petals, #2 overall shape of the flower, and last color. I know leaf size and shape are factors but I did not use them.

Man, you talk about brain dead  :-[ I think I need serious mental therapy. Cruising through other topics here in the satsuki forum I came across a thread I posted awhile back. Of what? Of this tree. And guess what? I listed the name of this tree in the thread "My 2 best Satsuki's". I feel like such an ass. Course some ppl say I'm that plus the hole too, but that is another story. I apologize for any problems, aggrevation or frustration this thread may have caused.  :(

Seriously?  You're going to make us go look over there (and look up that thread too?  You couldn't at least link it here for us?) ??

Halfway wired. Had to do this in stages as I became aggitated trying to wire teeny branches and getting into the interior with my huge hands. So when I got aggrevated I'd quit for awhile.

98% wired. I didn't wire the last couple of inches at the top. To me it looks fine....for now.
