Well here it goes!

This is the first tree I have seriously gone after styling.. . completely without a professionals guidance. I have taken quite a few workshops...as well as tinkered with several trees (ok...a lot of trees). But this is the first one I've wired completely myself (no guidance) and styled without anyone else or a professional doing most of the sryling.

So... I'm well aware that the wiring is not professional (yet...  Wink ). And the styling as well.-- But I'm curious to hear what you all have to say. Again...I fully admit that I'm just kicking off my serious attempts at styling trees and can take your critique. Please be honest, yet respectful; and I promise to do the same.

Thanks for looking!

I have braced myself for what is to come...  Huh?

This tree was collected...(by me)... in the spring of 2011. It grew very strong this year. + tons of back-budding!

Here are the befores: (sorry about the poor quality pic's)

Here are some more angles...back, side and just for fun...the under-side...

Wiring was performed a little over a week ago. Most of the downward hanging needles were cut. Select primary buds were removed...leaving weaker buds and the many back-buds that have formed.

If everyting is going strong the tree may be transitioned into a "next size down" training pot in the spring of 2013... Though I may wait until spring 2014.

Dan,

Your tree is first class and I like your styling work. This tree has a great future. Thanks for sharing.

(Nothing like ponderosa here on the east coast. I am, however, always on the lookout for a good Virginia pine.)

Best regards,

Hey Dan, Looks like a nice tree, The one thing that catches my eye w/ the styling is the planting angle. the trunk looks real parallel w/ ground/pot rim. a little more upright like the angle in the first pre style pics might help? Also side pic looks good in photo, to make the front match that pic if you could crank the crown to be more over the cascade branch might look good/more compact? not sure if feasible, just a thought/observation.
anyway it looks great, and a good job on styling to me.
thanks for posting.
Very rewarding I'm sure when gets into a pot to have collected and styled and whole process yourself.

Thanks Raymond and Jason,

There is more movement in the trunk in person....but I did go back and forth between upright and semi-c. quite a bit before I decided on this angle. I think either would have worked well, and who knows..I may get a whim to change it in the future. I'll have to think about a big bend like that.

Thanks for your input and replies Smiley

I found some pics from the date of collection. Not the greatest but at least they document it Smiley

Try without the single quote in the file name.

Thanks, I think they may have been too large. I'll shrink them down a bit too.

Try without the single quote in the file name.  This is a known issue with our forum software that we're working to correct.

Sorry for the trouble.
