Title: First Ponderosa Pine
Post by: Jason E on June 23, 2012, 11:57 PM
Hello Everyone,

Thought I'd share a few pics of a Ponderosa I recently acquired. This is my first Ponderosa. No luck finding Larry Jackels book but will start by holding off on the fert until a little later in the growing season and studying it for styling options.
Not sure when it was collected but info I got was last repotted in 2010.
Any suggestions welcome.

Thanks, Jason

Nice tree.  Why are you withholding fertilizer?  The key with recently collected trees is to get them strong in the pot.  Controlling needle size should be a secondary consideration only after the tree is strong enough.

Thanks MC, My thought for withholding fert early was that it has had at least two full growing seasons in this pot and seems to be healthy and pushing new growth nicely.
Am more concerned w/ health than shorter needles though.

Thanks, Jason
