My maple is blooming
« on: March 19, 2014, 02:05 PM »
I bought this maple last year and repotted it about three weeks ago. It's blooming now should I pinch these off?

I'm pretty sure it's koto hime. I've left the flowers on for now.  Everything is so small on the tree that I'd pull leaves off by the clumps trying to pinch out the flowers.

It has been my experience that when a tree flowers to excess it means its being threatened. Pull it out of the pot and have a look at the root system.

I've never seen a maple flower like that, I think you should inspect it to if see if there is something going on with it. What have you been using for fertilizer?

Any update on this tree?  And where did you get a koto hime that large?  That must be ancient as slow as they grow.  Mine is over 10 years old and is still only about 1/2" trunk diameter.

Looks healthy.
You gotta stop holding that phone vertically and keep it horizontal for every pic.  My monitor gets heavy when I have to pick it up to turn it sideways.
