Title: Lurker needs advice! ( Japanese Maple )
Post by: DariusB on August 31, 2015, 06:44 PM
Hi all long time lurker needs help, I'm hoping some more experienced members can help. my first question is about the nebari, I was wondering if this is usable or if it would be better off with a air/ground layer? any advice, suggestions , critique is appreciated, thank you.

It is not the best nebari, but otherwise you have a nice tree.

There are two ways I can think of to improve it.
I recommend that you try root grafting first - it may not be as difficult as it seems. On the other hand, if it proves to be very difficult/frustrating, you live with the nebari and a few scars or layer it.

Yes.  Root graft.

I have to agree on the root grafting.

Rather take the long road and ensure that your bonsai survives.
