as for the tips of the needles yellowing i would most definitely say thats the fert your using thats why i alway and only use organic fert that chemical stuff is no good at all.i feed my JBP's so aggressive this growing season and had no yellowing tips

Personally, I find it hard to blame this on the fert.  Fish emulsion is pretty low concentration, and organic so not likely to be the problem.  Half strength miracle grow would also be pretty low concentration.  Given that there are other bonsaists using fert at 5X the recommended strength, without problems, its hard to imagine that 1/2 strength would be problematic.

So I don't know what the problem is, but IMHO, its not the fert.

I seem to have a vague recollection of a post on bT or bnut regarding needle color. If I recall correctly it listed symptoms and their causes. I'm not sure how accurate or complete it was. Does anyone have a link?

I did give it a break from the fert. after noticing the problem and that seems to have done the trick.

Try a pH test.  Different species of plants show deficiency symptoms different ways.  Not saying that this is a pH problem but it could help diagnose the issue.  Some deficiency symptoms look like other issues at times.
