Removing needles

How much is too much when removing needles from a pine? If new spring candles are in, should I completely remove old growth needles?

No. Go online and get Boon'd Black Pine decandling video, will explain the process completely.

short of watching the video you need to understand that you will be cutting those new candles completely off in june/july. So if you remove all of the needles and cut of the candles you will have a pretty much good as dead tree

If its the only pine you've posted a picture of, you don't need to be removing needles yet.
