removal of sacrifice branch
« on: April 23, 2014, 09:07 AM »
Hello All,

I have a sacrifice branch on the top of a JBP that is starting to cause inverse taper. Can I remove it in a month or so?

Pine is probably 5-6 years old and was repotted in March. It is healthy and planted in a good mix of pumice and grit. I would like to wait a month to pump it up with a bit of fertilizer. Also, I have another sacrifice branch close to the base to take it's place.

Tree is about an 1-1/4 "and exisitng sacrifice is about 3/8" and about 12" long. (I know it should have been removed this winter.)

Would it be ok to remove in a month? If not, when?

Thanks,

Augustine

Something that small you can remove most anytime.

If you are afraid of taking it all off at once, cut below the candles in to tge needles , this will stop it from grieing, then you can cut it back in srmectiobs over the summer.

John,  You obviously fly first class!  The drinks they serve me back in coach aren't nearly that effective!

I wasn't even on the airplane, until I corrected. I slept all the way from LAX to BDL, minus a cup of coffee ar 7:00am. Boring huh ?

The use of escapes in bonsai must be watched, they can get away from you.
