Title: Buying JBP seeds
Post by: Intriguedbybonsai on December 10, 2012, 01:04 PM
Does anyone know of a good website that imports Nishiki (Cork bark) seeds, or other JBP seed varieties?

Seeds produced by cork bark JBP do not necessarily carry the corking genes.  So, planting seeds isn't going to produce cork bark trees.

This is why they're grafted.

I have heard of some having air layered a grafted tree so that the cork barked tree is on its own roots.

I've been pleased with the seeds I've bought from Sheffield's Seed ...and Ebay.  I'm not sure though, as has been mentioned, that Nishiki is available from seed.  I think it can be rooted from a cutting though.

Nishiki come from Witch's Broom, grafted mostly.
