2 new Scots Pines....

i got them because they were cheap...i dont know what im going to do with the first tree, theres no taper, so i dont know what to do with it....i dont know what im going to do with both of them, besides get them healthy....im going to be looking at these tress for a while to figure how and what im going to do....

Spanish Scots Pine---Very interesting name. The reverse taper is a problem, so I would wait until late fall or winter, cut off all the unneccessary branches in that whirl and leave just two (the apex, and first branch). If you let the lowest branches or buds grow out for several years, it might solve that reverse taper issue by creating a thick base and nebari. Just make sure it's in inorganic bonsai soil, full sun, well watered and heavily fertilized.

thanks...yeah that reverse is a BIG problem...i repoted the tree in the first pic yesterday with, Red lava rock, Pumice, Decomposed Granite,  horticultural charcoal and some compost....i just repoted the other tree this morning...here's the pic....i dont know what branch to take off...the lower 2?? can anyone help me with this one...and when should i remove the branches...

Have you contacted Boon yet about Bay Island Bonsai?  If I lived as close as you I would for sure join.  There are those that live at the opposite end of the country and travel just to participate in BIB.

i emailed him, im waiting until i go back to work to join...and waiting for my truck to get back from the shop....but as soon as i get the truck back and get back to work, im goin down there and joining..

Boon will help you to make good decisions with material for bonsai. $45 bucks a year.

okay so for the pine in the first pic...do you all think if i were to grow it in the ground, that the trunk will thicken up to fix the taper problem?
