Your Bonsai 2015
« on: January 01, 2015, 05:38 AM »
 :o Happy New Year!

So when I started in 2011, I still believed 2012 was going to bring an event, maybe not the end of the world, but I thought about not seeing trees to finished. I really thought Yellowstone might blow red.

Here it is, 2015!  Still no great trees, but some words from this forum ring in my head a lot. I really like this group, and I appreciate how much I have learned.

In 2015, I may get something into an actual Bonsai Pot, may use Akoi Blend, and may purchase a good piece of material.  I hope to downsize, which will include getting rid of everything I have "learned" on, and anything with crap for nebari. More lights indoors.
And with any luck, get that grow bed going.

What's up for your Bonsai 2015!?

Nothing but pain and brutality. That's every year though.

More of the same.

I must say I started on a good note today when I cleaned my benches.

Yes, I'm a member of this club. Fierce winds sweeping the benches. Not cold enough to inhibit fungus, not warm enough  for vigorous growth. Rampant rot from too much rain. Moss everywhere including behind my ears. I could go on.

When you're done, could you get mine?  They could use a good cleaning.  :)

Ha, there is much joy in having metal stands, with BRC for the top [ wire mesh ], after the protective paint coat, 28  years later they are still clean.

Repotting underway.
Happy New Year !!
Good Morning

I can't repot today….

All my bonsai are frozen solid, like a chunk of ice!

I don't think I'll be able to repot tomorrow either…

Awesome photos bill!

I really look forward to 2015. I purchased several cuttings/seedlings from Brent and Bill (different variety of prunus mume, 2 trident maples, 2 zelkovas, a Korean hornbeam, Chinese cork bark elm, 3 Japanese red pines, and 5 Japanese beech) Hopefully all of them will bring an enjoyable future, but of course it all depends on me. So I will be repotting, and applying some nebari techniques as I transfer them into colanders or ground this year.

In addition, I will be working on the rest of my trees. My newly acquired red maple seems to excite me the most.

Lastly, I would like to thank all of you for all the support and knowledge I gained from this group

I hope all of you will have a great year!

Nick

Bill

Out of interest, what would you be repotting at this time of year anyway?

Nothing, I was just wishing. Tired of winter, but we still have 3 1/2 more months of cold weather coming.

No, about the only thing you can do now is to wire evergreens. But if you wire and shape now the trees must be given a bit more protection. When wiring and shaping the tree is "opened up" and many of the inner branches and foliage are now exposed. Before working the inner branches and foliage was protected by the outer foliage. So, the inner foliage and branches are not acclimated to the colder temperatures.
