Al, I'd like to see more of your deciduous tree projects; especially species other than maples (you've covered tridents very well).  Personally, I check this forum every day and contribute more nowadays when prompted.  Some may not comment waiting for somebody else to answer judging by the number of views vs comments.

This forum is not flashy and can be a bit dry at times, but the information filter here is solid.  People seem to be afraid of negative feedback and that's not just online.  However, a number of beginners have posted seedlings far from being an impressive tree and received feedback and encouragement.

If everyone's trees were awesome, the forum would be worthless.  In the meantime, people can share their bonsai and recieve feedback (for free) from objective sources.  It helps.  Hopefully everyone will have awesome bonsai one day.  That's why I help  ;D

From the early days on Gardenweb being a list server, to being banished to Disneyland by Spike Hernandez, to posting on IBC to BonsaiPage where I had 5000 posts, to BonsaiTalk where I had 5000 posts and was intimately introduced to John Kirby whom I've met several times as well as John Calloway, Peter Tea and Chris Johnston and many more of the Boon Crowd. When BonsaiTalk went kerplunk, I established BonsaiNut as home base. I have never been much of a mass forum poster. I mean posting my trees all over the net just hoping for someone to say something. I know everyone lurks at all the web sites and sees the work going on. Most of them are members on other forums also so if they wanted to say something or contribute to a tree I've posted they are on the net to do so.

Two years ago I started a blog and have posted most everything I have done thus far over my bonsai career on that blog. My weather here is hot and dry. I do not do much outside during June to Sept. My average high for the past two weeks has been 105 daily. Thats average. A couple weeks ago we broke a 125 year old record with a 110. Monday and Tues are slated to be 107. I do not keep much other than tridents, junipers pines and elms. Not much else will grow here. California junipers seem to like it though. I do keep a few pyracanthas that are doing very well. They seem to like it hot also. Interestingly enough I have never had a good olive though I know it would do well, just havn't found it yet and pomegranites just don't do it for me.

This is one of my most recent projects. An old Prostrata juniper

After nearly killing it with malathion due to heavy spidermite infestation, it is finally back on the road with new growth and hopefully now I can breath a little easier.

Al, thanks for the info.  I have a blog and write articles as well.  It takes up a fair amount of free time as you know.

Personally, I spend most of my time working on trees, but airports leave lots of free time to read everything here and post.

This forum would be greatly improved if more people posted not just the work on a tree, but updates over the course of a year or multiple years.  The threads don't biodegrade  ;D.  The threads that MatsuBonsai and AdairM have been updating recently are great inspirational material.

I've met many of the people who post fairly often on here in person and have enjoyed the new connections.

Be careful what you ask for!  Al is known to put up some hard core Stand Porn!

Trust me, you'll know it when you see it!

I havn't had much free time the past six months. I have been spending all my free time helping my wife with breast cancer. Two more radiation treatments and she will be through. Maybe I can get to pruning some of my trees, they look like bushes right now.

Here is a pyracantha I managed to finally prune last week as chores eased up.

The tree right now is just starting to open the new buds so now is the time to get in there and really fix up all that grew too large.

This is what it looked like earlier in the year when it wasn't growing like a striped ass ape.

Most of my material is simply growing out this yr.  I'm leaving for Ryan's here on the 10th for our first styling session.  I do have though 2 RMJ, 1 Itoigawa and one procumbens that are ready for styling.  So hopefully I'll have more to post soon.

I do appreciate though everyone trying to share what they are doing...always interesting to see what others are working on!

Thanks John. Tomorrow is the last treatment and then she is done. 7 months total and it really took a toll on both of us. We are ready to do some camping and get the trailor out of storage. I have tons of stuff to do around the yard and a 100 tridents to prune.
Life is good....

Al. Excellent to hear all is still well, and likely finished with treatment by the time you read this.  ;D Looking forward to the camping post, may the forest bring you and yours some well deserved peace!

??? Lost for words to accurately describe.....
