What pot for this juni?
« on: November 12, 2010, 12:40 PM »
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok, it is time to repot this little guy come spring. I have three options and I wanted to see what you had to say about it. In september of '08 i bought this at Lowe's as a mounded landscape plant on clearance. The full story can be seen here, http://bonsaistudygroup.com/shimpaku-juniper-discussion/procumbens-'nana'/  Well, without further ado...

p.s. I'm gonna add pics with the new pots placed in front of the tree as soon as I take them.

I'd opt for the last picture, w/ the straight-sided rectangle.

I voted round, with the rectangle a close 2nd.  But, is it in need of repotting?

i like the vertical lines of the round pot.... I think it will deceive the eyes by providing a wider spread than what the tree actually has. If that makes any sense?

I think you need a training pot like this: http://www.satsukibonsai-en.com/containers.htm. My dad and I have realized that we should use these training pots until we are ready to show a tree, and then buy a quality pot when the tree is showable. Otherwise why put it in a pot that will not help to develop the tree? And waste money on pots of lesser quality.

Just my opinion, and like a liver, everyone has one.

I like it.

I think I told you in chat that I love the new pot it's in.
