Visiting Tampa Florida Area
« on: November 01, 2010, 07:15 AM »
Good Morning..... My wife and I will be visiting Friends in the Tampa area. We will arrive late Saturday Nov 6th and stay to early Saturday Nov 13th. I don't know what our friends have in mind for us, but if I find time is there any 'Bonsai' related places worth a visit? Obviously it would need to be near Tampa, although I think we will be at the Cape for a visit.

I'll be checking my email from time to time.

Jay

It might be worthwhile to contact the local club.  Each area/person/club will be different, but you might get tips on nurseries or even invited to private garden tours.

Good luck, and we look forward to your reports.  :)

Thanks for the link to the club's site. If I have the time, I'll try and give them a call.
Enjoy and be well

If you have access to a car and a bit of time, try to get to Wigert's in North Fort Myers. Well worth the visit.

Thanks Mike,
Wigert's is on my Radar but I don't know if I can get everyone to head south. We are going to the cape and probably will stop in Orlando (not Disney) on our way back. If I can convince the group to go to Wigerts I'll send pictures.

Jay

PS
Mike, don't know if you'll remember but we meet a couple of times 7 or so years ago. Once at your home, I was living in Orange County NY and came with Craig. Michael Persiano was there that day. We also went collecting in Orange County....

An update. I will not get to Fort Meyers... my loss. Wigert's seems like 'the place' on the west coast. I did pass by an stop at Eve's Garden of Gifts. This place is north of Tampa, in Land o lakes Florida. If you are in the area Don't bother stopping. They have huge quantities of material, nothing in my opinion either worth a purchase or for sure worth the price.

Sorry no pictures. Please if you have knowledge of this place add to this post.

Well I'm back from my Florida Trip, everyone here (trees) are in their winter homes...last ones in this morning. While in Florida, Venice Beach area, I was guilty of 'bad thoughts'. There are numerous  Bougainvillea that would be perfect in a pot. Some by street side mail boxes.... got to admit that they were tempting. Of course the golden rule, if they aren't yours, and you can not get permission, just enjoy them where they are.

Perhaps my Florida friends will bring me one in the spring!
