Tree ID: Privet (Ligustrum)?
« on: April 01, 2012, 11:50 AM »
Hi. Mom wanted this very large shrub removed from her home garden. When I saw the girth of the trunk I thought I should volunteer to dig it up for her and keep it for myself. It's been cut back and thinned out a bit, but I didn't want to do too much and risk killing it.

I have a couple privets, and this tree looks like those in many ways. However, I've never seen privet with leaves like this. Is it a relative then? A genetic anomaly? The photo doesn't show it, but there is one branch with the typical fully green leaves on it that I see with most privet.

I'll make a guess at Rhamnus alaternus 'Argenteovariegata'. The green top is a reversion.
