JTucker and Big Dave:
Who is the girl you guys are sending to Japan?

Hey Elliot,
whazup... thanks for asking.  Her name is Martha Choy.  We are not sending her exactly.  She has a year, to get ready.  the idea is we use our quite large club to help her raise funds.  Her family has the the means to just write a check for her japan trip. But we all decided it would be a fun communal project to do it this way...

1)Members can and have donated trees for her to style, then when established we will auction/raffle them to our members.
2)members can have her work for them,She is will to do anything(super attitlude), weed wire, whatever... and folks donate what they believe her help has been worth to her.
3)She will find potensai to get ready to sell in our plant sales

The idea is a win win.  She increases her abilities, works hard to get ready, build stamina, we in turn get to teach her and get good bonsai products at a decent price, and the people have a pride in helping and she has commited to teaching what she learns over there.

What is unique about Martha, she is a Mexican.  She travels to America many times a month to study with teachers.  she has multiple clubs and two countries behind her. !!  It is exciting for us.

As to our good friend Michelle Dougherty, she has expressed her interest as to being next to go if this is successful. You are right she is very deserving, Elliot.

Owen,
Cool blog, you are doing great !

Since my name popped up here I will chime in, to clarify. I think it is great that Martha wants to go to Japan to study. I do not know her personally. I am a member of the San Diego Board and expressed some logistical concerns when Dave original presented his idea to launch this as a "club project." Dave offered at that time to make me the 'second one to go, if it works out for Martha." I have never expressed interest in participating in this project, while I wish Dave great luck with it.

Yorozu-en was kind enough to extend an open-ended invitation to me, to again study there when I decide to return to Japan, the timing of which I have been considering for awhile. I would prefer to make that my own affair and not involve the San Diego Club in any way in that decision.

I support anyone's decision to further their bonsai knowledge any way they see fit. I also believe in rewarding valuable contributions to bonsai, where they are being made. I read Peter's blog, and about 10 other great blogs, and if someone in a position to financially contribute to these efforts does so, it is a noble deed indeed.

Hey Michelle,

Super sorry for misunderstanding.  You are a great bonsai talent and of course can make your way to Japan probably better than anyone I know.

Always have been your biggest supporter !

Now Return to "Support Peter Tea"...
