Storing liquid fertilizers
« on: August 31, 2009, 10:47 AM »
Can liquid fertilizers be stored?  Most of my pots do not need (and will not hold) a full quart of water, which is the smallest amount of liquid fertilizer I can make with any degree of precision.   After I soak the soil with the fertilizer, I am always left with extra.  Will that keep, or should I discard it every time and make fresh?

I have never tried to store a mixed batch of fertilizer and have not heard of anyone keeping it after mixing. I would keep using fresh batches. You can always use the rest on something in the yard or an indoor plant.

It will keep. Where would the nutrients in the mix go? When I was in the foliage business,we used to mix up huge batches and then inject over a period of time through the sprinkler system.

Well depending what they were, they could degrade in the light or with heat, etc.

What I do instead of make a huge batch every time is use a hose-end feeder. I just put in a capful or so of my liquid fertilizer and it gets mixed with the hose water when I spray my trees.
