Repotting 2013 underway
« on: February 25, 2013, 10:11 AM »
Last spring I had acquired a few new trees the previous fall...and taken apart a forest where the trees would benefit from some root work.  I remember being particularly ruthless with them, and was worried when the first leaves came out that the trees were having a hard time keeping them replenished with water.

Fast-forward to this weekend where I got to look at the roots.

ps.  The trees are admittedly not much, ...yet.  I'm working my way up, starting with the roots.

Note the squirrel damage on the trident.  I hate those things!

I used to think squirrels were cute.  Then they tore apart my trees.

Nice looking roots you have started there.  Should make for a nice nebari in a few years.

Great looking roots. What type tree is that first one? It looks like it has some age and a nice start to the base of the trunk.

Oh how I miss repotting this time of year. Now that I am back here in IN I have to wait longer. Drats!

I was looking last night, my Chinese Elm is ready to be repotted, noticed one tiny bronze leaf. Japanese Maples are almost ready to open.

I have a little poly structure to protect the newly repotted trees from the cold. Looking forward to start the season!
