hi judy,
I am leaning towards the satsuki.
I;ve got oregon bonsai close by and actually got a second ponderosa recently from someone getting rid of their collection.
So now it's a down to deciding between a few different satsukis :)
fun though  ;D

thanks,
Jason

Hi Jason,

Being familiar with the trees in question, I can say an azalea is the right way to go. While the selection is not what it once was, there are still some nice ones.

P.S. I will be down at the shop this Saturday...if you happen to be there, it would be nice to meet.

Best regards,
Josef

I would trade that azalea and 6 others like it for that ponderosa! LOL! but then again, I have no interest in azaleas and wish we had nice ponderosa's around here. Azaleas wont do well at all where I live and Ponderosa's would have to get JBP grafted onto them.
Out of curiosity, what are they selling that pine and the foofoo bush for? (I apologise ahead of time to those who like azaleas)

That's a nice PP for that price imo.  And I too am not a big fan of Azaleas, but both of your choices look to be very nice.

Well thank you all for your imput.
Finally made a choice..both.  :D
well kind of I was able to get the p.p. and a nice import w/ a great trunk that needs a bit of a re-build due to losing a few branches.
There's alot of new growth in most of the right places and a lot of the tree is already there.
Will be a project but the price reflected that.
variety is tensho.

Thanks again,
Jason

Nothing like getting it all!

Glad you got that pine as well, I love the branching on it. Can you show a few more angles on it?

On that pine, I might change the potting angle so that it leans even farther to the left.

Nice one!

Congrats Jason!  Real nice Satsuki!  And I too am happy you got that pine too, I really like that one a lot!  Tons of options to go and a great trunk.  Good decisions! ;)

Thanks alot guys.
we did talk about adjusting the planting angle and looks good tilted w/ blocks of wood.
this one was collected in wyoming in 2006 I believe. collected and initial styling done by John Muth.
Pictures don't seem to do it justice, it's just under 24" tall and 20'+ wide.
looking forward to further development of this one.

Interesting how this turned out.  One or other-got both ???.   Personally would go Ponderosa.  Incomparable bark, branches not brittle, not so winter sensitive.  Azalea meh bark, brittle to wire, etc, but nice flowers.  But both came with great looking pots as big plus.  Also would like to know progress? ;)
