Bonsai Study Group Annual meeting
« on: February 09, 2013, 07:33 PM »
I'm pretty new to this study group but have found a ton of useful information and am very thankful. Has this study group ever considered hosting an annual event, holiday party, potluck, or show? It would be neat to put a name to a face at least once a year. I know all the clubs I belong to have an annual holiday party, why not this one?

Due to the varying locations of the members, I think it would be pretty difficult to get everyone to meet up in one location... unless maybe Boon was hosting.  ;D

Yep! have it in Northern Cali and maybe Boon would show and so would I. Not may from the east cost could come, I don't think.
Have Boon give a lecture or tree styling and a lot more folks would show up I bet.
It would not work for enough people to make it worth while.
I do agree that It would be nice to put a face to the many people we talk to. We already have profile but no one uses their picture and many don't have location or emails listed. Anonymity is good at some times especially if you piss some one off and they find you live in their neighborhood. LOL

Folks get together at lots of places, I met Jay and several others at Valvanis' show in June, a number at ABS/BCI, some at the BIB show in January.  That is how I met Al Keppler, Yenling, Kajukid, among others over the years.

That would be awful.  Every time I told someone I work in biochemistry they would try to introduce me to John Curby.  At my first BIB show we had half a dozen people introduce us.  It got to be pretty funny.

I have a feeling there will be a lot of us at the Artisans Cup in October. I'll buy the first round?

If I can finish my PhD in August the way I want, I will be at the artisan's cup.  Sounds like a lot of fun, and I am sure there will be some really good trees.

The Artisan's Cup should be a great time, I am going to submit a display for consideration. On another note, I always suggest that BSG members who live in the bay area get with Boon via BIB, here is one of our BSG members acting the part of a Japanese Beech in an Air Layer Kabuki Drama (http://bonsaitonight.com/2013/02/08/air-layering-shishigashira-at-bib-meeting/). This is borrowed from BonsaiTonight.
