Trying to get my crap together ;)
« on: March 25, 2010, 07:51 PM »
Thought I would post pics of my rude and crude benches with my rude and crude trees on them.....most of them. Been cleaning my fenced area that I keep my trees in and putting up the benches to place them on after a long winter on the ground. Concluded what repotting I can do this year.

WOW.

That's a bunch of trees you've got there.  They're a lot more organized than mine.  And I didn't see too many that I noticed.  You're hiding a ton of trees over at your place.  At least spring's sprung and you're about done repotting.

Nice work!  (I thought I had a lot of trees  :P )

I'm sure it's a relief to get all that done.  This year, it seemed like everything started pushing buds at the same time for me, so it was a bit of a mad scramble to get the repotting done.

I like your katsura.  I've got two of them - one that is grafted and the size of yours, and another that I got from a landscape nursery that has a big 3" base.  The leaf colors as they extend are really pretty.

In your second post, first picture, what is that tree in the back row on the right edge (with what looks like a lot of deadwood and flowers)?

You have a lot of nice trees there.  Definitely enough to keep you busy this growing season :)

LOL, I guess in a way it does look like deadwood. That is my collected Wisteria with swollen flower buds. I collected this one back in '08. It wasn't the biggest trunk in the area(where all of our rampant wisteria comes from on our property) but it was about the only one that had not grown into a chainlink fence. It had 4-5 flower racemes last summer. So this is it's first full flowering spring. The branching is no where near good. I figure I'm going to have to let this tree grow wild for a few years to get the primary branching to scale. Thing is that wisteria, in good growing conditions, can produce runners upto 20 feet long in a growing season and they will latch onto anything. Trust me, I see this every year with wisteria and kudzu.  :o

I've already hit stage 1 of boredom LOL. Bout all I am doing now is pinching back my Japanese Beeches as they unfurl their leaves. Have started fertilizing some trees with Bonsai Logistics(Tom Brown's) 6-6-6 and rapeseed cakes. I have to spray my entire area(mainly perimeter) of my fenced area with 50/50 vinegar water solution to keep the wilderness at bay. First night they already had tried to eat/steal the cakes. If we didn't have cats I'd electrify that sucker ;D Anyway, thought I'd update on "keeping my crap together"  :)
