Nice progress.  There isn't a substitute for time, just look compare the bark in the first and last pictures.

The planting angle or the planting depth bother me.  Was it repotted this year?

Repotted 2 seasons ago (not this winter but last).

What bothers you about depth and or planting angle?  Too high, too low?  Too steep, too shallow angle.? Radial roots present, yet much higher on right.  Can reduce some on right, or plant less steep.  Changing planting angle will affect the styling chosen.  With a slant style, usually root mass larger opposite the lean (as is in this case).

Interested in your thoughts. All about making tree better.  Close too sweet spot with this tree, yet refinement needed.  I may consider a smaller apex than present.
