Kinda spring....Finally!
« on: March 27, 2013, 11:13 AM »
Finally getting days in the 40's and lows just at 32 for the most part.  Everything was pushing buds in the shed.

So this am, I moved everything outside.  Bill V. made a great post as to how to deal with introducing your trees back to the outside.  All conifers and decid. trees with tight buds can stay out.  But any decid. tree with any opened bud, must be protected...back into the shed at nightime till we stay above freezing.  Very helpful!

I'm going to try today, if I have the energy (man that hospitalization took it out of me.  I'm at least eating like a horse trying to put the weight back on), to relocate my in ground trees.  Give more space, plant the low growing trees, like all those shimps I planted last spring, to the front and move taller decid's to the back so they don't block the light.  It was my first time planting trees, and I didn't do a good job.  Live and learn.  (going to be real careful to not disturb the roots at all.  And I'm curious as heck what the shimp that I stapled the roots to wood looks like LOL

Hi Chris, glad you are getting better. I was debating what to move out myself. I was thinking of waiting until Weds, as the Waukegan forcast says Tuesday night the low 20's are possible. Though the forecast beyond 24 hours is iffy at best. The bulk of my trees are outside, in the north facing 3 solid sides, 4th is a tarp shelter under my bench. I opened the tarp a while ago. Those are still fully dormant. My worry is the 'others' in the old well house. I will follow Bill Valvanis's advice.
