Good Evening All,
I was wondering if anyone has experience with Japanese Musk Maples. I can find very little information on them. My beautiful specimen is a Shohin Cascade that I purchased from Don at Gregory Beach. It is a spectacular little tree with a fragrant perfume that scents the whole bench when it is watered.
Don if you still have the pics I am sure that the forum members would love to see them. They are on my work computer and are not here at the house or I would post them now.
What is the correct time of year to prune?

I treat them just like trident maples. Repot when the 1st signs of bud swelling occur. I normally prune at the same time as I repot, then as needed during growth season. Pinch back your new growth like any Japanese Maple. Depending on how much flowering you want, prune/pinch a little less vigorously. Many people prune for structure during Fall/Winter and seal with paste.

Don,
I do not know if you remember this tree well enough but we changed the angle of the planting ever so slightly. The end of the cascade was dropped a hair to highlight the great movement in the trunk and make it sing just a bit more. Really love this tree.

Jeffrey, I did notice the change. It looks really good.
In general, they are great trees. My musk maples here are stinking up the greenhouse now...

Don,
Stinking? No the term I would use. I guess if you only have one like I do it is not overpowering although it is is distinctive. The tree is easily identified. I know of no other like it.
