I have a better particle anyway which does retain plenty of moisture.
Al,
What is the better particle?

The answer is here. Type in a search for akadama substitutes. There you can read about mocha lava. You can only get it in Sacramento so not readily available. I have no idea why boon does not use this as a base to add Akadama to. It is very inexpensive.

Found this as an interesting read, soil mixes are too complicated for me though.
