Boon's Fall Intensive October
« on: August 05, 2010, 01:08 AM »
Hi all,

After following the ongoings of the SOBs for the past few years and watching all of Boon's DVD's (and convincing the other half!) I am finally taking the plunge!

I am coming over from Canberra, Australia to do the October Fall Intensive and I'm extremely excited!!!  ;D ;D ;D

Will any of the fine Bonsai Artists that frequent Bonsai Study Group be in attendance?

It'd be great to spend some 'real life time' with some of you!

Cheers

Scott

Scott,
Well, Wow! I travel a couple of thousand miles 6 or 7 times a year to Boons (each way). You are going to do this in one trip...... All I can say is, if you can get over a couple of days early and get a little past the Jet lag it will help.

I for one truly admire your determination, you will not be disappointed.

Good luck,
John

Congrats, Scott.  I won't be there, but I'm sure you'll be in good company, whoever is in attendance.  Learn lots and enjoy.  Be sure to post pictures along with thoughts on your experience upon your return.

Already in the plan, we'll be flying into San Fran on the 4th and the Intensive starts on the 7th so hopefully I should be good to go!

I will definitely be posting pics and hopefully a little write up after we get back.

Good.  Do all your sightseeing before the Intensive.  The wife went with me to a Fall Intensive.  We planned for a sightseeing day before Intensive and one after.  We toured the city some on the first day.  The sightseeing day after Intensive was spent napping in the hotel room.  We were both exhausted from travel, the first day of sightseeing, and 3 FULL days of tree work and Tuckers Ice Cream.

Another question I wanted to put to bonsaistudygroup is what are the essential bonsai places to visit in the US.

Last time I was over, I went to national exhibition in DC, but didn't do any nurseries...

We will be in most of California, NYC, Boston, and Vegas...I would really like to get some high quality pots if possible...any suggestions...

On another thread John Kirby reminded me to post some pics of the intensive I did in October with Boon.

Firstly I have to say that if anyone in the US wants to learn how to grow better Bonsai...

ENROLL IN ONE OF BOON'S INTENSIVES TODAY!!!

You will not find a friendlier, more knowledgeable bonsai professional in the US (although Peter is a pretty cool guy too ;)).

The best advice I can give anyone is have a look at the trees, they speak for themselves!

The intensive was one of the best experiences that I have been fortunate enough to do. All of the students were a great bunch of guys, great trees, sooooo much information, great food and some awesome pots!!! Jai was cool too!

Anyone who hasn't been, needs to check Boon's setup out.

Boon, I can't thank you enough for letting me participate in one of your intensives. I'm rallying around the Australian Bonsai Fraternity to get you out here to do some study groups...Interest is very high so i'll keep you posted.

Now to the pics...

 ;D ;D ;D

I will add more pics but my Mac had a fit when trying to resize some of them.

I think Boon has a good photo of our 'Blue Man Group' too, hopefully he posts it.

I've been recovering from my debacle this spring and haven't been posting much, so I'm sorry I haven't paid as much attention as I should have.

Scott, congratulations on your commitment to do this, you couldn't have chosen a better teacher. The format is what it's named, "intensive," but every trip is worth it. Keep it up!

Chris
