Perfect

I have 3 forest plantings.  One is a Trident maple forest.

I originally had it in a shallow pot (though I believed it not shallow enough) and I added some rocks into it and I was fairly happy with it.  But I hadn't re-potted it in a few years so I took it to a bonsai nursery for assistance in re-potting and it was put into another larger pot.(a hideous one at that)

I have been looking for very flat white penjing pots but so far I have not been able to find anything here in SA.  I have a friend trying to make me one at her pottery class so I will see if that will work.  If not I may go for a slate / slab and move it onto that come spring.

I am definitely going to change the pot on my forest as it does not appeal to me at all in the current blue pot.

My 2nd forest planting is Black Monkey thorns - Acacia Burkei

I started this in 2010 with a few seedlings that I bought at a nursery.  In 2011 I added more seedlings as a few had died off.

I had done almost no work on it since 2011 except for a re-pot in Sept 2014 into a smaller pot.

In January 2015 I decided to add in a few rocks and and try to make it look slightly better.  So I took out the old larger pot and did some work on it.

Again the idea is to get it into a shallower pot.  I have held back on most of the cutting on the upper branches as I need to get it into the pot first before I do some proper cutting.

My 3 forest planting may actually not even be a forest as it now only consists of 4 trees as one died.

It is a Hinoki Cypress planting that I got last year September as a birthday gift from my 2 boys.

The plan was always to re-pot it (again a ugly pot) and make it nicer but then one of the trees died so I have not done anything with and will look again come spring 2015.  The thought now is that I remove one of the trees and make a 3 tree Hinoki Cypress Saikei

Yeah definitely rocks.  In the beginning I was not really happy with the rocks as I kept on thinking that they just did not fit.

But looking at the image that I took yesterday, I actually like the look of it when I look straight on from the front.

I think that when I re-pot it in spring into a new pot, I will try and incorporate the same rocks again and layout although one of the trees from the left hand side will be removed and planted on its own.

Here's a Trident maple forest that's been around for a while.  To me, rocks are an essential part of a forest planting; it helps to give context to the overall composition.

I too like the idea of a new thread . Also like all the trees posted here, especially Dorian's acacia burkei. They remind me of texas ebony, also an acacia.
