First freeze of the season and heavy frost
« on: October 18, 2009, 08:22 AM »
Good Morning All,

Last night here in St. Louis my benches saw the temperature dropped below freezing the first time this fall and there was a heavy frost. Winter is coming.

I moved from MA to GA this past summer.  Everyone told me how mild winters are down here...HA!  It was 36F this AM, we have a freeze watch/warning for tomorrow AM, and I had to turn the heat on in my house almost 2 weeks earlier then I did last year up in MA!!  At least my RMJs and Ponderosa will appreciate this little touch of home.

Dave,
you can always move back here!
You're larches and RMJ's will be much happier.  However, your wife and kids might not be :-\
hope all is well down there,
John Romano

Hi Dave,
So, did the RMJ's go wild on you this year? The cool weather is just a tease, it will go southern on you soon enough, you know 80 in January.........

Hey John, good to here from you!  Hope all is well with you at home and at NEBG.  Though I miss MA terribly, we will not be moving back any time soon.  Funny, the weather has been very "New Englandy" done here over the last week...lots of rain and drizzle and cool temps only getting into the 50's and 60's.  They were even predicting snow flurries/showers in the North GA mountains yesterday.  Good news hough, temps back up in the 70's later this week :).  Talk to you soon,

Dave

Hey, John.  I wouldn't say that the RMJs went crazy...if anything, they slowed down a bit in their growth (look, I'm happy they are still alive ;D).  I suspect they didn't get enough sun this summer, partly because I was cautious with them after the initial move south, and also because we bought a house on a heavily wooded lot.  I've cleared away some of the trees in the back so that there is now maybe 4-5 hours of mid-day direct sun and dappled shade otherwise.  There may be more saw work down the road...we'll see.  By the way, thanks for the extended forecast.  I'm looking forward to it 8).
