Title: copper wire
Post by: Steven on November 16, 2012, 07:38 PM
This has probably already been posted but I just don't have the time to search through all posts. I'm looking for a site to buy copper wire. I thought I had Jim Gremels site but apparently I don't and googling has lead me to dead ends. Thanks to all who input :)

The link to Jims site just says "default site" same as I have been getting on the google search. The other 2 work.

Buy from Gremel. If not, try Meco Bonsai. I like Jim's wire best, but Roger is a quality guy and sells in different format.

Before leaving SC I attended my last study group where we had Tim Gardner as our teacher. He recommended Jims wire as the best. That wire safe on Adams Bonsai site is cool(<<for L'ville John)

I have Adams copper wire at home.  It's pretty good.  At Boon's, we used Gremel's.  It is softer.  When I use up my existing supply, I will get my next wire from Gremel.

I tell everyone to buy from Jim Gremel; especially if you need a lot as he waives shipping costs on purchases over $320 (I think).   I don't even get a discount for promoting him, but my hands feel better after using his wire a few days straight on a client's trees  ;D.

On a different note, where does everyone buy their aluminium wire?  Never bought a ton at once until now.

Owen, the high tensile (high holding power) aluminum I get from Jim or Roger as well. The low tensile wire, aka low holding power and cheap- Stone Lantern.

Love Jims wire too!  Do you guys buy the regular size lengths from Jim, or a larger bulk length?  Just curious to price savings??

Um, Jim sells by the Kilo or partial kilo, fixed weight per gauge. He will do special sizing, but you have to buy a lot- several complete sets, to get it.

jim gremel's wire is the best I have used thus far in my bonsai journey. but copper wire is expensive so i use aluminum for trees that are not conifers. I have also bought bare copper wire from the home depot and annealed it myself, actually worked really well. But as far as aluminum goes I have only been able to find/buy stone lantern wire. which is Ok
