Cage to protect berries from birds.
« on: June 22, 2015, 06:58 PM »
I've shown this pyracantha before, now it's full of green berries which in time will be red. Last year I saw a Kalij Pheasant sitting on the tip of the rock picking berries so this year I knew I'd have to get serious about saving a bumper crop of fruit, so here's what I came up with. These are big birds, they wander through our yards and show us their kids in the spring. I had to stop feeding them after  one of these garden ornaments plopped on a satsuki breaking an important branch, twice. So here's the cage, the water supply for house and garden (since it was nearby), 10K gallons,  and big bird.

Thats a great idea Shima

I do not have a problem with birds but I do have 2 cats and then of course, the neighbours cats etc.

I lost a Jin branch off my Juniper before because of the cat so I should look into doing that to protect the Juniper.

Great job

What kind of bird is that, it's beautiful.  Of course not when it's attacking your tree!  Good solution to your problem.  I get birds wanting to pick at my sphagnum soil cover in the summer, but I just put bird netting over it, and they haven't bothered it since.

google Kalij Pheasant

Birds don't bother the sphagnum on the bonsai because it's everywhere.
