Hey Jerry,

I would LOVE a copy of your sketchup and instructions.  My dad and I could build one next summer.

Jerry,
Not an automated reply, just a response that is necessarily repeated with most new members. We appreciate your presence here and hope you will join us fully in archiving information.

Great idea.  I've done many threads on message boards with my images hosted elsewhere so I could insert them in the text vs have them all bunched up at the bottom.  Nice to see this message board lends well to a well constructed post.  :)

I won a tree in a raffle this weekend, and am now officially out of space.  This table may become my winter project.

I've been talking of building a real bonsai bench for years and recently I finally got around to doing it.

I have to admit that watching people like Al Keppler building these beautiful wood structures and stands finally convinced me I should do it. I thought for a long time that I would need to get someone to make iot for me - since I have no discernable woodworking skills to speak of. I had no decent tools either, other than a drill... I simply figured it would be too expensive to have someone else do it so I'd have to do it myself.

Anyway to cut a long story short - after I had designed it (ahem, which only took 3 years...) I built the first one in a weekend and the second one in 5 hours.

Here's the slideshow: http://www.flickr.com/photos/norbury/sets/72157617697509234/show/

For anyone REALLY interested - I have the Google Sketchup design sources AND I've written assembly instructions. (For a US based carpenter who plans to build them commercially).

you have an awesome collection, both in numbers and design.  Also think that your bench is stellar.  Sending you an email for the plans now.

Love the bench design.  I think I have my husband talked into making this for me.  Any chance you can send a link again for the plans for the bench? The links with the plans did not work.  The photos and slide show links did work. Do you have them in non-metric measurements?  Sorry for the inconvenience.

By the way, your trees looked awesome.

Here's a link that I've just got from skydrive - so let me know if you have any trouble with it.

I've added some hints at the end of the plans telling you how to deal with US sizes. It might be sufficient that your husband sees the exploded diagrams...

Those really are quite nice stands Jerry!  Job well done!!

What wood oil did you use btw?  And, btw, you have some great trees for sale....Good Luck!  Just wish we didn't have to deal with Phytosanitary Certificate bs.

Thanks.
I used a sort of treated Pine (for use outdoors) for the frame and hardwood decking planks made of Bankirai. Use whatever you would normally use for building a deck - I got mine from the local DIY shop. .

Jerry I have to thank you for the design/ plans of this bench. Almost 2 years ago I was looking at bonsai bench designs and ran into yours. I loved it so much and it looked simple so I built a variation of it. I cant say it's exactly like yours but I altered what I had to in order to make it work. I've never built anything before in my life!! Your designs were so simple to follow. I know it doesnt look as amazing as yours but I'm pretty darn proud of the first thing I built lol! Oh and the kids enjoyed it as well!
