Title: Bonsai Tool Maintenance
Post by: jlushious on July 08, 2014, 09:47 AM
I looked through the forum and couldn't find anything specific on this, so I thought I would just do a quick post on what I do. I cleaned my tools last night because I finally got some stuff to do it!

I purchased some crean mate that I use to scrape off any gunk on my pruners, scissors etc. The sap - especially from pines - can make a mess and it's easy to use the crean mate to it all rub off. I also have this tool lubricant that I put on.

Also included some before and after pics of the cleaning for reference.

What do other people use?

Exactly that, except sandflex rather than clean mate. Both basically the same thing.

I use Camellia oil on the tools, it is good for using on pots as well.

I use a sandflex block, sanitize with rubbing alcohol, then a little 3-1 oil.  I use the Tri-flow on my bike cables, never thought to use it on my tools for some reason!
