Bjorn Bjorholm Workshop in Louisville
« on: May 23, 2012, 09:19 PM »
It was a great weekend to be in bonsai in Louisville last Sat.  We had a workshop with Bjorn Bjorholm and some great black pine material. Bjorn was great to work with. For more on him you can go http://bjorvalabonsaistudio.com/about/ Enjoy.

Oy, you have no idea. And it's only going to get worse.

We made quick work of the JBP workshop trees. Bjorn was kind enough to stick around while some ran home to grab more trees.

Jim, any pictures from after lunch that you can post between trips to Miami and Afghanistan?

What nice stock to begin with, and it looked like a very nice workshop!  Was it a lot of work scheduling Bjorn, getting the stock and getting enough people to join the workshop Jim?  It'd be nice if someone here in Chicago did such an event.  But I never hear anything like this from our club.

Alright, per John's threat to send me to afghanistan.  ;D As john said, Bjorn was nice enough to let us bring some of our own material since we knocked out the black pine so fast. Here is some of that:

More ... The final shot is showing how the bend incorporated the branch back into the tree's design where as before it was to far out and "leggy" to do much with. Instead of cutting it back and waiting on new growth which may never happen Bjorn just bent the existing material back to put it where it needed to be. We never really determined type of juniper this is?

I believe the workshop material was purchased by a group of board members during Brussel's preview sale weekend.  It usually just takes a few emails, some coordination of schedules, and a bit of luck to book a good workshop.

I know the Cincinnati club has a lot of success working with regional clubs to split travel costs, etc.  It might be worthwhile to put out some feelers in your area to gauge the level of interest in splitting the cost between clubs.
